Lipomas are benign fatty lumps. Removal is straightforward and cosmetic outcomes are excellent.
What they are
Soft, mobile, painless lumps composed of mature fat cells. Almost always benign.
When to remove
Increasing size, cosmetic concern, discomfort from location, diagnostic uncertainty.
Procedure
Most under local anaesthesia. Larger or deeper lesions may need general anaesthesia. Small incision, complete enucleation, layered closure.
Recovery
Same-day discharge. Light activity for a week.
Histology
Sent routinely to exclude rare liposarcoma.
